Killington is located in the state of Vermont in the United States. Killington is the largest ski resort in eastern North America. The ski area is nick-named 'the beast of the east' for this reason.
A total of approximately 120 hotels and many apartment complexes in Killington. Besides these accommodations Killington has a lively center with a large number restaurants, bars and clubs.
Killington is located a few hours drive from major U.S. cities on the east coast like New York, Baltimore and Boston, making it a popular destination for many tourists in the skiing season.
Slope information Killington - Killington
Killington's ski slopes are situated on the slopes of Killington Peak, the second highest mountain in Vermont. Besides the Killington Peak, the ski slopes are spread over a number of other mountain tops, Skye Peak 3800 ft (1158 m), Ramshead Peak 3610 ft (1100 m), Snowden Peak 3592 ft (1095 m), Bear Mountain 3295 ft (1004 m) and Sunrise Mountain 2456 ft (749 m). A seventh mountain, Pico Peak 3967 ft (1189 m) is also part of the ski area and can be reached by ski bus.
Killington's ski slopes offer plenty of entertainment for any skill level skier. The ski area include one of the longest ski slopes in North America, the Juggernaut, a red / black descent of 9.9km long. The slopes of Snowdon and Ram's head are especially suitable for beginners, while you can find some spicy double black diamond runs at the Killington Peak. The most challenging runs are in the 'outer limit' on Bear Mountain, where you will find a number of double black mogul slopes.
Snowboarding Killington
Killington has a wide range of snow parks and pipes for freestyle snowboarders. The Super Pipe has walls that are 18 feet high (5.5 meters).
Fun parks in Killington are: The Stash, Dream Maker & OL Rail Park at Bear Mountain, Timberline at Ramshead and Mouse Run by Snowdon (only at the start of the season).
Skischools Killington
The Killington Ski & Snowboard School is well known, thanks in part to the max 5 concept. This concept means that ski lessons are always given in groups up to 5. This ensures the highest possible attention to anyone in the ski school classes.
For the youngest children, there is the Friendly Penguin Day Care and are special programs for each age group.
For snowboarders starting with lessons, there's the Burton Learn to Ride program, used in Killington to learn snowboarding step by step. Burton also has a test center where the more experienced snowboarders can test the latest boards and boots.
The Killington Ski & Snowboard School also has special lesson programs to learn freestyle jumping (Fly & Learn) or mogul skiing (Mogul Camp).
