Originally Aspen was a silver mining town, inheriting its name from the many pine trees (Aspen). With an enormous variety of ski slopes, powder snow, off-piste ski and snowboard facilities, this is a winner. Besides the ski slopes of Aspen Mountain, the ski are stretches from the Aspen Highlands to Butter Milk. The nearby ski area of Snowmass is often included in the same skiing holiday and is easily accessible by a ski bus. Aspen has some 180km of ski slopes spread over 270 runs. If you count the Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass you get a ski area of nearly 300km of ski slopes!
