One of the largest winter sport resorts in the world is Portes du Soleil. Portes du Soleil is a collection of a 14 separate villages in the Haute Savoie spread across France and Switzerland and linked together. The area is enormous, and a veritable dream for the demanding or novice skier! The French villages are Avoriaz, Abondance, Les Gets, Châtel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Saint-Jean d'Aulps, Morzine, and Montriond. The Swiss villages are Champéry, Morgins, Val d'Illiez, Les Crosets, Champoussin, and Torgon.

Slope information Portes du Soleil - Portes du Soleil

Plaine Dranse, containing perhaps the most beautiful slopes of the area, starting from Avoriaz, is easily accessible. This valley has plenty to offer for skiers and snowboarders of every skill level. Beginners often gravitate to the area around Le Pleney, directly accessible by ski-tram or cabin lift. One of the most challenging slopes can be found around the famous Col de Joux Plane where beautiful, long, black runs go all the way down into the valley. In the Swiss part is the very challenging Mur at Chavanette (towards Avoriaz.)

Snowboarding Portes du Soleil

Portes du Soleil offers a ski holiday with everything a snowboarder could wish for including a few plate-lifts, lots of off-piste opportunities, some great boarder cross slopes (especially those in Nyon, near Morzine), and snow parks. The off-piste runs from the Col du Fornet are great, and offer an abundance of powder nearly year-round. Snowboarders that like to descend past the tree lines can enjoy beautiful areas in the Les Gets neighborhood.
