Ski holidays in Mount Hutt

Mount Hutt ski resort is located near the village of Methven in the South Island of New Zealand. The large city of Christchurch is located approximately at 90 minutes drive. Mt Hutt is a commercial ski resort managed by Southern Alpine Recreation Ltd , the company that also runs the New Zealand ski resorts Coronet Peak and The Remarkables. There are no hotels and lodges immediately at the ski slopes. The accommodation nearest to Mt Hutt is located in Methven, Mt Somers and Stavely. Own transport is needed in order to arrive at the ski area. There are also ski buses (shuttles) every day however from both Christchurch and nearby Methven. The ski season in Mt Hutt typically lasts from June till October.

The Mt Hutt ski area covers a total of 365 acres of ski slopes. The 6-person chairlift in the ski area is great in particular, taking you to the top in no time above to an altitude of 2000 meters. The ski area is ideal for beginners and families with young children. Children under six years receive a free ski pass for example, and there is excellent daycare and the 'Skiwiland Crèche' for young children. Besides the fact that the facilities are good for beginners and kids, there are some long race skiing runs. Because these slopes, a lot of the world's top ski racers have their training camp here during summer. For experts, in addition to the groomed slopes, there is also the black off piste Rakaia Saddle Chutes.

Snowboarding Mount Hutt

Added to Mt Hutt recently is a small fun park (The Dirty Dog Terrain Park) for novice freestyle snowboarders. For the advanced snowboarder there also is the more advanced Up & GO terrain park and a large half pipe.
