Skiliftkarussel Winterberg is by far the most famous ski region of Sauerland, probably the most well-known ski resort in Germany. Because of its location near the Netherlands there are also many visitors that come here for weekends, day trips or even school trips to Skiliftkarussel Winterberg. The ski slopes are spread over 6 sectors: Herrloch, Kappe, Asten, Poppenberg, Remberg and Astenstrasse. For apres-ski fans, the Poppenberg is where you should be! The network of cross-country skiing trails in Winterberg is huge. Winterberg gives you access to about 200km of the 300km cross-country skiing trails available in total across Sauerland.

Sauerland has a collection of smaller ski areas, many of which are accessible via the ski pass, the Ski Arena Card. This ski pass includes Skiliftkarussell Winterberg, Willingen, Postwiesen, Neuastenberg, Sahnehang, Züschen, and Skikarussell Altastenberg. With more than 60 lifts (including 6 chair lifts) that carry you to 50 km of ski runs, this ski area is not only suitable for beginners, but even advanced or expert skiers think this is a fun destination. The ski areas that lie in Sauerland include a total of about 100 km of ski slopes, if you add all small surrounding ski areas, and a dazzling 300 km of cross-country trails!

The apres-ski is getting better by the years in Winterberg. There is a large variety of bars, restaurants and even discos. The best apres-ski is directly by the ski slopes is the Skihutte at Poppenberg (Möppi´s Hütte) which is very popular. The Alpenrausch is also highly recommended in the season!

In three areas, Winterberg, Willingen, and Bestwig-Wasserfallen, some extra attention is given to snowboarders. The big jumps in the Winterberg and Willingen fun parks are very beautiful.
