Ski holidays in Rhön

Rhön is located in central Germany relatively close to the big city of Frankfurt am Mainz. The Rhön Mountains are a group of relatively low-altitude mountains on the border of Thuringia, Bavaria, and Hesse. The highest mountain in this area (and also one of the ski areas) is the Wasserkuppe, with its summit at 950 meters high. The Rhön includes the ski areas of Bischofsheim / Arnsberg, Bischofsheim / Kreuzberg, Feuerberg, Geba, Gersfeld / Simmelsberg, Hohe Rhön, Ilmenberg, Obernhausen / Zuckerfeld, and Wasserkuppe. Most of the ski areas in the Rhön have only about 5 km of ski slopes each, and are therefore mostly suited for local visitors and families with children. Despite the relatively low altitude, the snow in the winter is often good enough to enjoy these ski areas.
