Ski holiday village Grainau is located right next to big brother Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Karwendel region in Germany. Grainau is located next to the Zugspitze, one of the peaks of the whole region. For snowboarders and freestyle snowboarders, there is a great fun park on top of the Zugspitze, one of the best across Germany. Besides the Zugspitze, the Classic ski-area is still a little closer and has a 40km of ski slopes on the flanks of the Alpspitze, Kreuzeck and Hausberg. No less than 7 large cars / lifts bring you up to these mountain peaks. The Zahnradbahn, Gletscherbahn and Eibsee-Seilbahn take you up towards the Zugspitze. The Alpspitzbahn and Hochalmbahnen bring you in the direction of the Alpspitze. The Kreuzeckbahn (direction Kreuzeck) and Wankbahn (direction Wank).

Slope information Karwendel-Wetterstein - Grainau-Zugspitze

In Karwendel Wetterstein there are three different ski regions, the famous Garmisch-Partenkirchen (among others, famous for ski jumping competitions), Grainau, and Mittenwald. Garmisch Partenkirchen itself has about 60 km of ski slopes, and is divided into two different sectors. First, there is the main Garmisch-Partenkirchen area around the hills of the Hausberg, Osterfelder, and Kreuzeck, where the most famous ski runs are located. Second, you also have access to the ski platform in Zugspitze, which can be reached through Grainau. The ski lift or ski train in Grainau takes you up to the Zugspitze, where another 40 km of ski runs are waiting for you. Around Mittenwald there are two additional ski areas, Kranzberg with 15 km of ski runs, and the Dammkar ski route which is 7.5 km long.

Apres ski in Grainau-Zugspitze

The apres-ski around the Zugspitze is great. Grainau itself is a quiet village that, despite its flourishing tourism is still a lot less busy than its big brother Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

There are two ski schools in Grainau, the Zugspitze-Skischule Grainau (skischule-zugspitze.de) and Skischule Alpin (skischulealpin.de). In total, the ski resort of Zugspitze has 40 ski instructors.
