Meschede and Bestwig are two neighboring villages that together form the holiday region Hennesee within Hochsauerland. Bestwig and Meschede are located along the Hennesee and share a small number of snow sports opportunities. Both towns offer easy access to the ski resorts Ski lift Eversberg and Ski area Fort Fun Winter Welt. Eversberg ski lift has only one blue descent. Ski area Fort Winter Fun World has three runs: a blue, red and black ski slopes. In addition, Fort Fun Winter Ski Welt has a beautiful snow tubing run and a separate lift for snow tubing. As in the rest of Sauerland, there are great cross-country skiing possibilities near Bestwig and Meschede. There are two separate tracks near Bestwig the Bastenberg trail and Plackweg trail. In total there are around 35 km of cross-country trails.

Sauerland has a collection of smaller ski areas, many of which are accessible via the ski pass, the Ski Arena Card. This ski pass includes Skiliftkarussell Winterberg, Willingen, Postwiesen, Neuastenberg, Sahnehang, Züschen, and Skikarussell Altastenberg. With more than 60 lifts (including 6 chair lifts) that carry you to 50 km of ski runs, this ski area is not only suitable for beginners, but even advanced or expert skiers think this is a fun destination. The ski areas that lie in Sauerland include a total of about 100 km of ski slopes, if you add all small surrounding ski areas, and a dazzling 300 km of cross-country trails!

The apres-ski is worthwhile just around the slopes at Fort Fun Winterwelt. Both Meschede and Bestwig have a number of very nice restaurants and cafes in their village centers.

In three areas, Winterberg, Willingen, and Bestwig-Wasserfallen, some extra attention is given to snowboarders. The big jumps in the Winterberg and Willingen fun parks are very beautiful.
