One of the largest winter sport resorts in the world is Les Portes du Soleil. Portes du Soleil is a collection of a 14 separate villages in the Haute Savoie spread across France and Switzerland, but linked together. In France these are: Avoriaz, Abondance, Les Gets, Châtel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Saint-Jean d'Aulps, Morzine and Montriond. In Switzerland these are: Champéry, Morgins, Val d'Illiez, Les Crosets, Champoussin and Torgon.

The ski resort of Portes du Soleil is a collection of 14 destinations in the Haute Savoie spread across France and Switzerland and linked together. The winter sports area is enormous, and a veritable dream for the demanding ski fan and beginner skier! Plaine Dranse, perhaps the most beautiful slopes of the area, starting from Avoriaz, is easily accessible. This valley has plenty to offer to any skier and snowboarder of every skill-level. Beginners are often attracted to the area around Le Pleney which is directly accessible by ski-tram or cabin lift. One of the most challenging slopes can be found around the famous Col de Joux Plane, where beautiful long black slopes go all the way down into the valley. In the Swiss part there is the Mur at Chavanette (towards Avoriaz), which is very challenging.

Snowboarding Les Portes du Soleil

A ski holiday with everything a snowboarder could wish for: a few plate-lifts, lots of off-piste opportunities and some great boardercross slopes (especially those in Nyon, near Morzine), as well as snow parks. The off-piste runs from the Col du Fornet are great, and offer almost all year round an abundance of powder. Snowboarders that like to descend past the tree lines can enjoy beautiful areas in the Les Gets neighborhood.
