Orelle is a base for those that wish to ski not to spend their evenings ejoying apres ski. It is not particularly good for families either as it a long way to come back to collect the kids after lessons and the link to Val Thorens is either a walk/pole to the blue or a tough red. Having said that it is a great base for keen skiers that want to drive to the Alps - few hairpins, near the motorway and just in case you get bored with the Trois Vallees, there are Val Cenis, Valmeinier/Valmorel, Les Sybelles, St Francois/Valmorel and Bardonnechia and Sauze d'Oulx in Italy (and a number of good smaller resorts) all within 40 minutes drive - all cheaper than the 3 V's. For keen skiers, start Orelle side (the high point in the whole area is here), then over to Val Thorens and cruise to Courcheval 1650 for lunch. Plan the route back to the Funitel du Grand Fond to allow plenty of time or finish off down the black from Caron - but remember it can be closed
