Travel Report Morzine
At the end of winter holiday season 2009/2010 we were a guest in one of the most beautifull French winter holiday destinations: Morzine.
Skiing in France means wide-stretched slopes, fantastic skilifts and generally great facilities. Because most of the ski resorts are at high altitude in the French Alps and Pyrenees snowheight and quality are usually very good. Especially in the destinations in the southern part of France, weather is nice and sunny throughout the year.
Ski holiday Tourism differs a lot with the numbers of visitors most villages in France receive in the off-season, so most hotels and accommodations are typically close to the ski slopes. The length of the ski slopes and downhill runs in the French ski resorts are unrivalled. Nowhere else will you find so many consecutive kilometers of skiruns. Huge snow sports areas, such as,
Les Portes du Soleil,
Les Trois Vallees,
Paradiski and
Evasion-Mont Blanc resemble infinite skiing pleasure!
In the past the French ski resorts where built mostly with practicality in mind first, giving them sometimes a bit too modern look and feel and less authentic feel to it. This has changed in the past decade however, where more and more 'fun', shopping, restaurants, bars and open spaces have been mixed in. Atmosphere in apres-ski has improved greatly in the largest ski resorts because of this.
Apart from this change, a lot of the smaller authentic villages surrounding popular ski holiday destinations have started to connect with them through skilifts or buslines. In other words - you could have the best of both worlds in France!
Similarly, regarding the apres-ski, for instance in
Val Thorens, France is catching up! Perhaps still a long way from Austrian apres-ski, but the nightlife is in 'the lift' at the French ski resorts!
