Ski holidays in Mariazell

In the Hochschwab area in Styria is the ski holiday village Mariazell. Mariazell is one of the most famous Maria shrines of middle - Europe. Monk Magnus brought here 850 years ago a Maria statue cut out of wood. Since then it is a known Maria-shrine. The ski area of Mariazellerland is small but has enough for each level of skiing. Through the Schwebebahn you can get on top of the Mariazeller Burgeralpe (1900m high) where you have a magnificent view over the whole valley.

The ski area of the Aflenzer Burgeralm is the largest area in this region with a total of 16 km of slopes. The ski area of the Mariazeller Burgeralpe offers 11 km of slopes and also a 60 km cross-country trail in the direction of the small village Mitterbach (along St. Sebastian). The ski area of Stuhleck, near Spital am Semmering, is the largest of the three with about 24km of runs. This area is named after the Stuhleck. With nearly 1800 meters, this is the highest mountain in this part of Austria.

The apres-ski is quiet in Mariazell, but with some restaurants and bars, there is still more than enough choice. The furniture and appearance of the local Silvanabar is so wrong and over the top, that it actually is an icon of style!
